Our Story

Mindfully Made. Inspired by the Past. Dedicated to the Craft.

2018 - ESTABLISHED

In the beginning.

In 2017, what began as a simple desire to build a farm table for my family quickly grew into a passion for woodworking and craftsmanship. As my dad and I worked on that first table, I developed a deep appreciation for the process—from selecting quality hardwood to refining each piece and ensuring the final product was both beautiful and functional. Encouraged by interest from friends and family, I took on more projects, gradually building trust in my skills and confidence in my craft. By early 2018, we officially launched Great Lakes Farmhouse, combining our shared love for woodworking with a vision to create high-quality, handcrafted furniture. What started as a small, custom table workshop serving our local Michigan community soon expanded as word spread about our craftsmanship, attention to detail, and commitment to premium hardwood—eventually allowing customers across the country to order directly from our website.

2024 - TODAY

House of Timber.

In 2024, with growing nationwide demand for our handcrafted custom tables, we embraced a new name—House of Timber—to better reflect our passion for fine craftsmanship and timeless design. More than just a rebrand, House of Timber symbolizes our dedication to creating stunning, custom-built tables that serve as the heart of your home. We specialize in crafting pieces that complement modern, farmhouse, and traditional styles, using only the finest sustainably sourced timber. Every table is thoughtfully designed and expertly built to be both a beautiful centerpiece and a functional, lasting work of art. While our name has changed, our commitment to the values that have guided us since 2018—quality, integrity, and the artistry of woodworking—remains unchanged. As a trusted, family-owned business based in Michigan, we continue to pour our hearts into every piece we create. Looking ahead, House of Timber will expand its furniture collection, offering a curated selection of pieces designed to bring warmth, character, and lasting beauty to your home.

FOUNDER & WOODWORKER

About David.

David founded House of Timber (formerly Great Lakes Farmhouse) in 2018 in Hartland, MI. With this step into the unknown, he found his deep passion for design through woodworking, eventually specializing in furniture. He developed the Clare Trestle Table in 2017, which led to his full line of small-batch hand-crafted tables with the Original Collection in 2018. David draws inspiration from Sam Maloof's passion and work ethic, Hans Wegner's practicality, and Finn Juhl's perfect curves. After studying design at College for Creative Studies in Detroit, MI, he moved to Miami Beach and held several creative positions. He later moved back to Michigan starting House of Timber with his dad.
